Recent protests across the U.S. and globally demanding racial equality have urged companies and organizations to make public statements surrounding their stance on human rights and their commitment to enact change within their organization to promote racial equality.
At CommCore, we work with leaders to provide appropriate tools and strategies to better communicate with employees and stakeholders. We firmly believe that communicating key messages involves listening to and learning from your key audiences, especially in diverse settings.
We advise that you consider the following when communicating with workplace colleagues:
- Pause and think about the words your messages may carry: Could they be considered biased? Are they inclusive?
- Use inclusive language when communicating internally and externally.
- Listen attentively to concerns or suggestions from all of your employees and/or colleagues for improving the office environment.
- Take the time to learn about your employees’ and colleagues’ cultural and familial backgrounds.
- Research or read up on current world events that may affect your internal team.
- Encourage storytelling, when appropriate, to create deeper and meaningful connections in the workplace to improve methods of interoffice communications.
- As cited in Forbes, the younger workforce that includes millennials, Gen Z and other groups, wants employers to be honest and public about social efforts. Hold open-thought conversations that involve your employees at all stages.
