CommCore Blog and News

Welcome Sam Cohen to our DC office

Three words you would use to describe yourself…Sam Cohen

Enthusiastic, Organized, Planner

What are you most passionate or inspired by…

I am passionate about food. Aside from merely eating it or trying new restaurants, I’ve immersed myself into the culture of it through books (cookbooks, fiction, and non-fiction), newspaper articles, TV shows, and social media. I regularly watch the ‘Food Network”, “Top Chef” (when it’s in season), and “The Great British Baking Show”. I look forward to Wednesday’s because that’s when the New York Times and the Washington Post publish their weekly food sections. I follow several chefs on Instagram. Finally, I regularly keep up with a number of food blogs as I’m always looking for new recipes, inspiration, and articles. I am completely self-taught and like to challenge myself by trying new recipes or learning new cooking techniques.

Why CommCore…

Having spent the last few years working in broadcast news, I’m excited about the opportunities that CommCore offers. They’re a veteran firm in the industry, highly regarded for their work, and it presents a great opportunity for me to learn more about crisis communications, as well as the importance of media and presentation training. Working in a newsroom during breaking news, I’ve learned to be fast on my feet and present the facts as quickly and accurately as possible. These are important skills needed to handle a communications crisis. In addition, having spent time on the back side of the camera for many television interviews, I have seen firsthand how important and helpful it is to be media-trained. Not only does working at CommCore offer a great hands-on experience for me but I’m eager to apply the skills that I have learned from TV.

What’s your favorite social media channel…

Long-term: Facebook

Short-term: Snapchat

For all of the bad press that Facebook has been getting, the website was really popular when I was in middle school so I’ve grown up with the platform. Facebook allows me to stay connected to family and friends all over the country. It allows me to post and view photos, keep up with job and life announcements, and share events with friends.

However, Snapchat’s nature in both sending and receiving content (photos/selfies, videos, messages) allows me to connect with my friends instantly. Whether it’s getting a selfie from a friend after a night out or one of my sister’s sending me a video of our dog after her bath (see below), I am instantly connected. Snapchat allows me to document and share aspects of my life instantaneously all the while knowing that it will last at most 24 hours.

What do you hope to get involved with the most at CommCore…

I’d most like to get involved with the CommCore PressureTest ™ Simulation Training. This is a very unique and realistic service that CommCore offers and really sets them apart from their competitors. With social media and an endless news cycle, information is spreading faster than ever and it’s important to be prepared if (and when) a crisis strikes. I think it would be a great experience to not only be involved with creating the test itself but then actually seeing the client participate in the simulation and watching them sweat under the pressure!

What are your hobbies…

Baking, Cooking, Exploring DC

What do you consider your most significant accomplishment to date…

Overcoming ACL reconstruction surgery. I’m looking forward to going back to high intensity activities such as playing tennis, running, and kickboxing.

Fun Fact…

I have a pug named Mrs. Potts after the teapot from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”
