During a crisis, there are many actions companies must take to maintain compliance and business continuity. However, this activity must be carefully planned in advance.
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only affected people’s livelihood but the day-to-day operations of businesses all around the world. After the pandemic hit, more than before, businesses are seeking new ways to communicate effectively and in a timely manner, rearranging their crisis communications plan and designating appropriate channels to best communicate internally and externally.
Adapting new ways to communicate effectively with employees, clients, customers or partners, during a crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic, organizations need to ask themselves:
- How has COVID-19 impacted my business (both short & long term)?
- Has the company’s communications plan been adjusted to COVID-19?
- Do we have an emergency response team?
- What and where is our crisis plan?
- Has our crisis plan been updated and tested?
- What communications strategies do we have for the media?
- How can we be proactive in measuring communications for the company? (internal or external)
- How can the brand and reputation of the company be preserved?
- Who do we contact for crisis communications preparedness?
With a media-saturated environment where misinformation spreads on social media at the speed of light, executing a well-thought-out plan is essential. Communicating the 4 F’s (Fast, Flexible, Factual, and Frequent) is essential to help maintain an organization’s reputation.
